End of the Damage Step

There are two different effects here which often confuse people.

They are very similar, but have some nuances which cause them to be notably different.

1. If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the GY:

2. If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle:

Type 1 ("And sends it to the GY"):

If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the GY:

● The monster has to be sent to the GY (EG: you can't activate this effect if Macro Cosmos is applying)

● The monster has to remain face-up on the field for this effect to activate.

(EG: you can't activate this effect if the 2 monsters destroy each other by Battle)

Type 2: (no extra condition):

If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle:

● The monster doesn't have to be sent to the GY.

(EG: this still activates even if it's banished or goes anywhere else)

● The monster doesn't have to survive the Battle.

(EG: Guaiba attacks Guaiba. Both will be destroyed and both will activate.)

Similarities:

● Both effects trigger at the same time - at the End of the Damage Step.

● It doesn't matter if the monster is destroyed after its effect has activated.

Something that people quite often mess up is Goyo Guardian attacking Machina Fortress. ● In this case, Fortress (mandatory) is CL1, and Goyo is Cl2. Goyo Summons, and Fortress destroys. ● Even if Fortress wasn't mandatory, it woudln't be that different.

In that case, Goyo would be CL1, and the Theoretical Optional Fortress would be CL2.

Fortress Destroys, then Goyo Summons.

This is different from Goyo attacking Ryko. Ryko destroys Goyo after damage calculation, not at the End of the Damage Step. Since Goyo specifies "and sends it to the GY", it has to remain face-up on the field for this effect to activate (see above).

For this reason, it cannot Summon the Ryko.
